Western Air Temple Airs December 21, 2007 (Holiday Hiatus Edition)
Happy holidays everybody and I hope you can stay warm! Worse part about living in Rochester? It’s bleeping cold, like everyday! So I have no sympathy for those down in the South (Particulary Texas….neo…) who complain about the weather. I would give anything to live in the South. Happy holidays all the same!
Alright, so we’re in the holiday hiatus for television shows, as the writers and producers usually take a break and get reaquainted with their families (small joke). You know I was thinking, it’s the holidays and all, but could the writers strike affect when we’ll see new episodes of Avatar? Not entirely sure where the show is made, but it’s definietly something to consider. Which brings me to another question, do the few writers who refuse to strike get like shunned from the practice? Are they like tarred and feathered? I’m sure Nick we’ll give us a healthy, one episode a week prescription, if something like the strike prevented the remainder of the season from being produced (another small crack).
Well, to recap on the “First-half season finale”, we got to see what went down on the Day of Black Sun. Needless to say it was good t.v., and I almost fell back in love with Azula….almost (She is so bad). By the way, those who haven’t seen the new episodes that have aired, I’ll post a couple of links below to quench ye thirst. Sav’vy? Anyhoo, the first half of the “Day of Black Sun” movie (pretty decent job by Nick, promoting the “movie”) showed our heroes (Aang and the gang) preparing and then putting Sokka’s invasion plan into action. Great to see Sokka, Katara, and their father (whose name escapes me) fighting side-by-side. I wanted to see Toph smack the heck outta someone with a metal brick, but I didn’t have pleasure of seeing myh wish come true. Alright, lemme rate the first half of the “movie”, since it’s technically it’s own episode:
Day of Black Sun pt. 1: The Invasion
V.A. (English): B+
Script: B
Plot: A-
Art: B
Overall: B+, as good as the first half of the movie was, the climax was that much better. Aang finding the entire capital abandoned was a nice twist though. And let’s not forget the oh so awkard Kataang kiss, right before the action kicked in.
The second half of the movie showed Aang and the gang searching for Fire Lord Ozai, only to bump into a fiery Azula (powerless, but fiery). Being the goofies they are, Aang and co. chase Azula around, and fight off cool Dai Li agents who are protecting her. All the while, Zuko is conmfronting his dad, and decides to officially betray him. Better yet, he even said he was going to be helping Aang take Ozai’s sorry butt. As soon as the eclipse had passed (a whole eight minutes later), Azula started flailing around again and the Gaang eventually end up retreating. Soon, the fire nation army begin to surrond the rebels, which leads to the Gaang, along with Teo, The Duke, and Haru, leaving for the Western Air Temple. It is implied that the rest of the rebels are rounded up and imprisoned. Bummer. The episode ends with the youngsters flying off toward their next destination: the Western Air Temple.
Day of Black Sun pt. 2: The Eclipse
V.A (English): A
Script: B+
Plot: A
Art: A+
Overall: A-, solid climax to the “Day of Black Sun” movie, and left fans with alot to think about. Zuko looking to join Aang? The fate of Suki? Iroh breaking out of jail? (which I somehow overlooked until now). The new episode is slated to aire December 21, 2007, which is such a long way from now if your a HUGE fan, like myself.
That’s all I’ve got for you guys now, don’t worry I’ll post the show links I find later on this winter break, for all you stragglers. Later people! Stay safe!
